Use Google to find mp3s fast

Here is a great way to find MP3 files using Google, and thanks to the fact people tend to upload their music to the webspace they get with their ISP or College accounts... which they shouldn't be doing :)

Go to Google (Link) and type in the following...

intitle:"index.of" mp3

Then follow this with the name of the track you are after, with the words separated by periods. For example...

intitle:"index.of" mp3 silent.night

You should get a list of people's personal directories which they are using to store their files. Just right-click on the file you want and choose "Save File As..." to get it.

Because a lot of the results you get doing this tend to be on University networks, the speeds you will be able to download them are very high.

If a website is down, try the cache

If you are searching for something, and one of the results you click on goes to a page that no longer exists, go back to the search engine results and see if there is a "cached" next to the URL of the page you are visiting.

Google (and other search engines) store the text of the pages they visit on their own servers. This cached version is there as a back up (although it may be anything from a few days to a few weeks old, so the information may be out of date). If the page has been deleted, the graphics may not load, but you will get the text.

Not all web pages are cached, as some webmasters request the search engines don`t store a copy.

Search for PDFs only

Many formal documents are stored on the Web in PDF format. You can limit your searches for these by putting "filetype:pdf" in your Google search string.

For example,
filetype:pdf american civil war
filetype:pdf president clinton speech

Search within one website

If you want to limit a search to within one website, put "site:WEBSITE" followed by the term. This is very useful for sites with thousands of pages.

For example,
site:www.bbc.co.uk gordon brown
site:www.apple.com ipod

Get someone`s phone number

If you are looking for someone`s phone number quickly, try google (Link).

Just enter their name, city and state and if they match someone in the phone book, you`ll see their phone number at the top of the search listings along with their address.

e.g. Michael Jackson, Tampa FL

You can limit the results to the residential or business phonebooks by preceeding your search with rphonebook: or bphonebook:
